The Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS) was launched as an independent research institution in Humanities and Social Sciences in 1998. The institution puts together systems for not only research but also training and outreach. Training and outreach include institutional handholding and incubating proof-of-concept technological systems. CSCS offers innovative courses in Cultural Studies for doctoral and undergraduate students as also professionals and activists. More recently, the institution partners philanthropic organizations in India and abroad to help them shape their interventions and formulate policies in the areas of Arts and Culture, Higher Education and Human Rights. The attempt is to deepen the capacity of Cultural Studies by creating an interface with the market, society and public policy, through applied research. In this capacity, CSCS has been partnering government and public bodies, civil society organizations, NGO’s, other educational institutions (national and inter-national), and funding agencies which have a stake in policy and implementation.
